The best 3 places to stay when on a business trip to Warwick University, the NEC or JLR
If your work is bringing you to this corner of Warwickshire — whether that’s a few days at Warwick University, an event at the NEC, or time on-site with Jaguar Land Rover at Gaydon or Whitley — you’ve got more choice of accommodation than you might expect. This part of the county is dotted with hotels, self-catering cottages and everything in between.
To save you the scrolling, here are the three places we rate most highly for exactly this kind of trip, and why.
1. Rose & Rampart, Kenilworth
For our money, this is the best base in the area for anyone combining work with a bit of comfort — and we’ll happily explain why, rather than just asking you to take our word for it.
Location: Right in the centre of Kenilworth, which sits almost equidistant between everything that matters for this kind of trip. It’s around a 10-minute drive to Warwick University, roughly 15–20 minutes to Jaguar Land Rover’s Whitley plant in Coventry, and about 15 miles (a 20-minute drive) to the JLR Gaydon Centre and Product Creation Centre (Rome2Rio). Birmingham NEC is around 30 minutes by car.
What you get: Three Grade II listed 16th-century properties — a four-bedroom house, and two one-bedroom cottages — all self-service, so you get your own front door, your own kitchen, and none of the shared corridors or thin walls of a hotel. For client dinners without the restaurant faff, there’s also a private chef option via yhangry.
Best for: Anyone who wants privacy after a long day, a proper table to work from, and the option to cook rather than eat out every night — plus the ability to book the whole Courtyard Collection if a team is travelling together.
Book direct and save the OTA mark-up: You can find Rose & Rampart on Airbnb and Booking.com too, but booking direct means no third-party service fee on top of the nightly rate, and a direct line to your host if your meeting overruns and you need a later check-in.

2. Holiday Inn Kenilworth – Warwick
If you’d rather have full hotel service — reception, breakfast included in the room rate, and no need to think about groceries — this is the sensible mainstream choice in the same town.
Location: Also in Kenilworth, within a similar distance of the University, JLR and the NEC.
What you get: Standard hotel rooms, a restaurant and bar on-site, and meeting space if you need to run something formally rather than just work from your room. It’s a known, trusted brand, which matters to some travellers and to office managers booking on a company card.
Best for: Solo travellers on a single overnight who want minimum admin, or anyone who specifically needs on-site meeting or conference facilities.
Where it falls short for longer stays: No kitchen, so every meal is a restaurant or takeaway. Extras like parking and breakfast are often charged separately from the headline room rate, and there’s less privacy for back-to-back video calls than a self-contained cottage.
3. North Mere Self Catering Cottages
If you like the self-catering format but fancy a quieter, more rural setting a short drive outside town, this is a solid alternative — and a genuinely different property to look at if Rose & Rampart happens to be booked up on your dates.
Location: A farm-based setting just outside Kenilworth, so you’re a short drive rather than a walk from the town centre, the University and the wider road network out to JLR and the NEC.
What you get: Self-catering cottages with a strong sustainability story — the site runs on renewable heating and follows regenerative farming practices — plus the option to book multiple cottages together for a team.
Best for: Travellers who like a countryside, farm-stay feel and don’t mind driving in for meetings, meals or the shops rather than walking.
Where it falls short for a working trip: Being out of town means you’ll want a car for pretty much everything — there’s no popping out on foot for a coffee between calls, or a walk round Abbey Fields to clear your head at lunchtime, both of which are a five-minute stroll from Rose & Rampart.
Why We Rank Rose & Rampart First
To be upfront: we’re not a neutral party here. But the reasoning holds up regardless of who’s writing it. Kenilworth’s town-centre location genuinely is the shortest average drive to Warwick University, JLR’s two main sites and the NEC of any of the three options above, and it’s the only one of the three where you can walk to shops, restaurants and the castle without getting back in the car. Self-catering data from across the UK short-term rental market shows guests increasingly value flexibility and privacy on a stay and a central, self-contained cottage delivers both in a way a hotel room simply can’t, while corporate housing research shows genuine cost savings over hotel stays once extras like breakfast and parking are factored in.
That said, if you specifically want full hotel service for a single night, the Holiday Inn is a fair shout. And if you’d rather be out in the countryside than in the town centre, North Mere is worth a look. For everyone else — especially anyone staying more than a night or two, or wanting somewhere they can actually cook and unwind — Rose & Rampart is our honest recommendation.
A Few Practical Tips, Whichever You Choose
- Book direct where you can. Whether it’s us or anywhere else, going direct rather than through Airbnb or Booking.com usually avoids the platform’s service fee and gets you talking to the actual host, not a call centre.
- Ask about parking before you arrive. Kenilworth is walkable once you’re settled, but you’ll want somewhere to leave the car for meetings further afield.
- Check the cancellation terms. Work trips move — confirm the policy before you book, especially for longer stays.
Whichever you choose, Kenilworth itself is a genuinely good base for this part of Warwickshire — but if you want the comfort, privacy and character of a Grade II listed cottage over a standard hotel room, we’d love to have you.
